Mbappe has just five months left on his contract and reports are stronger than ever in suggesting that summer move to Real Madrid has been agreed.

His desire to win the Champions League is likely to force his hand, with PSG having failed to get past the last-16 stage in five of the past seven seasons.

Sociedad stand in his and his team-mates’ way after winning their group ahead of Serie A table-toppers Inter Milan, and are more than capable of continuing PSG's miserable European fortunes. Is this the first step of Mbappe's own last dance?

PSG's quest for Champions League glory continues as they welcome Real Sociedad to Parc des Princes for a round of 16 first-leg tie on Wednesday.

Despite being winless in their final three group games in Group F, Les Parisiens scraped through to the last-16 at AC Milan's cost thanks to a superior head-to-head record against the Italian side.

On the other hand, Real Sociedad topped Inter and Group D on account of a superior goal difference.

PSG defeated Lille 3-1 in a Ligue 1 encounter at the weekend, while the Spanish outfit will look for their first competitive win in five games following a 0-1 home loss to Osasuna in La Liga the last time out.

Here, GOAL brings you everything you need to know about how to watch, including TV channel, streaming details and more.

Paris Saint-Germain vs Real Sociedad kick-off time

Date: February 14, 2024

Kick-off time: 8 pm GMT

Venue: Parc des Princes

The UEFA Champions League match between Paris Saint-Germain and Real Sociedad will be played at Parc des Princes in Paris, France.

PSG boss Luis Enrique would continue without the likes of Presnel Kimpembe, Milan Skriniar, Sergio Rico, Nuno Mendes and Layvin Kurzawa through injuries.

A well-rested Kylian Mbappe will lead the attack, with Gianluigi Donnarumma, Achraf Hakimi, captain Marquinhos and Warren Zaire-Emery all expected to earn recalls in the XI after starting on the bench in the Lille win.

La Real coach Imanol Alguacil will be sweating on the availability of Mikel Oyarzabal given that the top scorer has missed the last two games with a muscle issue and the club has failed to score in the last four straight games.

Sheraldo Becker, Kieran Tierney, Alvaro Odriozola, Carlos Fernandez and Aihen Munoz are all ruled out injured.

Takefusa Kubo, Umar Sadiq and Ander Barrenetxea are likely to form the three-man attack.

Presnel Kimpembe, Milan Skriniar, Sergio Rico and Nuno Mendes remain out but Kylian Mbappe should be back after resting an ankle knock against Lille OSC to add to each of his goals in all Paris games so far this edition. Gianluigi Donnarumma, Achraf Hakimi, Marquinhos and Warren Zaire-Emery should all come back into the starting XI for this one with Keylor Navas, Nordi Mukiele and Lucas Beraldo possibly making way.

Sheraldo Becker, Kieran Tierney, Alvaro Odriozola, Carlos Fernandez and Aihen Munoz are all expected to miss out while Mikel Oyarzabal is also a doubt. Alguacil could go with French-speaking pair Hamari Traore and Robin Le Normand ahead of Jon Aramburu and Jon Pacheco. Brais Mendez could replace Benat Turrientes alongside Martin Zubimendi and Mikel Merino in midfield while Ander Barrenetxea and Umar Sadiq are expected to join Takefusa Kubo up top.

Kylian Mbappe and Co. edged out of the group stages to book their place in the knockouts as they finished second in Group F. La Real head to Paris on the back of an unbeaten group stage at the end of 2023 after they topped Group D ahead of 2023 finalists Inter Milan.

Enrique will be able to call on talisman Mbappe, after he stayed on the bench for the 3-1 weekend win over Lille, but he is missing defensive trio Milan Skriniar, Nuno Mendes and Presnel Kimpembe. Captain Mikel Oyarzabal is set to miss out for Real Sociedad through injury alongside Sheraldo Becker, Kieran Tierney and Alvaro Odriozola. Takefusa Kubo will start, on the back of signing a long-term contract extension with La Real, with six La Liga goal scored so far.

The Round of 16 in this year’s UEFA Champions League continues on Wednesday, with two of the clubs in their respective countries going at it, as Paris Saint-Germain plays host to Real Sociedad.

PSG has been the class of French football for well over a decade, winning the Ligue 1 title in nine of the last 11 seasons. However, despite being on another path to winning their league, there are skeptics who believe the club will flame out in the Round of 16 for the third consecutive season. They went 2-2-2 in Group F, narrowly finishing second above Milan, saved by a tiebreak. They gave up eight goals in the opening stage, and are capable of making a couple of errors at costly times.

Sociedad is trying to make the best out of its first UCL appearance in a decade. The Europa League mainstays had previously struggled to hang near the top of the La Liga table, but managed to sneak into the top four by the end of the 2022-23 season. They followed that up by surprising everyone, finishing first in Group D, not losing once in their six matches. Though they had three draws on their record, Sociedad did enough to advance to the Round of 16. Unfortunately, they have not quite performed well enough to be returning to the Champions League next season, as they are currently seventh in the La Liga standings, 11 points out of the top four.

As expected before the start of this campaign, the Parisians are the Ligue 1 leaders, although they looked shaky in the UCL group stage and made it to the knockout stages after Newcastle lost to AC Milan at home.

Real Sociedad, meanwhile, are fighting for the European positions in Spain, but their best performances have come in the Champions League. They avoided defeat in the six games they played and overtook Inter Milan in the race for their section’s top spot.

PSG picked up a win on February 10 against Lille OSC with a final score of 3-1. PSG took four more shots in the game, 15 to 11. PSG was led by Goncalo Ramos and Randal Kolo Muani, who scored one goals each in their side’s match against Lille.

In its last outing on February 10, Real Sociedad was handed a 1-0 home defeat by CA Osasuna, while recording 11 more shots than CA Osasuna. While Real Sociedad didn’t manage a goal against Osasuna, Takefusa Kubo led the club with six shots.
