A Bundesliga defeat to Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday leaves them five points off the pace and in danger of missing out on the title for the first time in 12 seasons.

It could mean the Champions League is Bayern best chance of a trophy this season. They came through the group stage unbeaten for the sixth straight year and head to Rome to face a team with just one win in their last four games.

Both Lazio and Bayern Munich are coming into the Champions League round of 16 first-leg tie on the back of shaky domestic campaigns.

Although they have made it through to the last four in Coppa Italia, Maurizio Sarri's Eagles lost the Italian Super Cup title to Inter and are 23 points off the Serie A summit after last weekend's 3-1 league win at Cagliari.

Following an early exit in DFB-Pokal, Bayern have also lost further ground in the Bundesliga title race after a 3-0 loss to Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend.

However, as compared to Lazio finishing second to Atletico Madrid (W3 D1 L2) in Group E of the European competition, the Bavarians topped Group A with an unbeaten record (W5 D1).

Here, GOAL brings you everything you need to know about how to watch, including TV channel, streaming details and more.

Lazio vs Bayern Munich kick-off time & stadium

Date: February 14, 2024

Kick-off time: 3 pm ET

Venue: Stadio Olimpico

The UEFA Champions League match online between Lazio and Bayern Munich will be played at Stadio Olimpico in Rome, Italy.

Sarri will welcome back Nicolo Rovella from suspension, but the Juventus loanee will have to see off competition from Danilo Cataldi and Matias Vecino to start alongside Matteo Guendouzi and Luis Alberto in the middle.

Patric, Mattia Zaccagni and Diego Gonzalez are nursing their respective injuries, while talisman Ciro Immobile should once again lead the three-man frontline.

The onus will be on Harry Kane in front of goal once again, amid the absence of the likes of Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry through injuries.

Konrad Laimer and Bouna Sarr are also confined to the treatment room, while Alphonso Davies is a doubt with a muscle problem.

The Bavarians have added Sacha Boey, Eric Dier and Bryan Zaragoza to their roster since the group-stage games, but Zaragoza is set to miss out due to illness.

Thomas Tuchel's side suffered a blow to their Bundesliga title chances with a 3-0 weekend defeat at Bayer Leverkusen which has opened up a five-point gap at the top of the table. Lazio secured a league win at Cagliari ahead of this game but Maurizio Sarri's team currently sit in eighth place in the Italian top-flight.

Tuchel is managing a lengthy injury list ahead of the trip to Rome with Alphonso Davies, Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry amongst the names missing for Bayern Munich. Joshua Kimmich is set to return to the starting XI after coming off the bench in the defeat to Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen.

Lazio will host Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 for the first time since 2021 on Wednesday, marking just the third meeting ever between these two clubs. Bayern Munich won both previous matches, defeating Lazio 4-1 in Italy in the first leg and then winning 2-1 at home to advance to the quarterfinals. The side coached by Maurizio Sarri seeks their first quarterfinal appearance since 1999-2000 where they were eliminated by Valencia 5-3 on aggregate. The Italian side is currently eighth in Serie A with 37 points through 23 matches, five points behind Atalanta and the top four.

On the other hand, Bayern Munich finished first in Group A with 16 points from six matches, their sixth straight UCL as group winners. Bayern dropped points for the first time in a group stage since 2020, drawing Copenhagen 0-0 at home, and they hope to bounce back from the humbling 3-0 loss at Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday.

With Mattia Zaccagni and Patric still injured, Sarri will likely decide to start with Mario Gila alongside Alessio Romagnoli in the defense, with Pedro and Felipe Anderson to play behind Ciro Immobile. The club's captain reached the 200 goals scored in the Italian Serie A last weekend and he's finally back in form after some injuries that forced him to play less in the first part of the season.

The German giants need to react after a difficult weekend where they lost to Bayer Leverkusen. Club's icon Thomas Muller will be back in the starting lineup and will play alongside Leroy Sane and Jamal Musiala behind Harry Kane. With Alphonso Davies still unavailable, Raphael Guerriero will replace him.

A heavy 3-0 loss at Bundesliga leader Bayer Leverkusen was the worst possible preparation for Harry Kane & Co., though they know that another defeat on the road would be disastrous.

Lazio, meanwhile, welcome the Bavarian to Italy off the back of a victory and ready for only their third ever Champions League knockout tie.

Bayern's injury woes continue, with Alphonso Davies joining Kingsley Coman, Serge Gnabry and others on the sidelines. Joshua Kimmich, Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-jae all featured against Bayer and should start.

New signing Bryan Zaragoza is hoping to make the squad after battling illness.

Lazio are monitoring injuries for Matias Vecino, Patric and Mattia Zaccagni. Nicolo Rovella will be available having sat out the weekend win over Cagliari with a domestic suspension.

Bayern continue to juggle injuries but should still have enough about them to leave Italy with a healthy first-leg advantage.

Thomas Tuchel will restore some more experience heads for the game, which will be played out in intimidating surroundings, which should get the job done.

These two teams met at the same stage of the 2020/21 Champions League, when Bayern won the first first 4-1 in Rome on the way to a 6-2 aggregate victory over two legs.
